To New Amsterdam

To New Amsterdam on the ocean rush, There’s a fine life there awaits for us, Our tangled toes could run away, your father never took to me, So I will meet you by the harbour when you wake, Find a new life where this love is ours to take. This beating heart has never felt so weak, As I read this note you wrote to me, You said you would not sail away; you could not leave your family, Do not worry dear if you're too much here to leave. I would not wrestle you from where you want to be.

So here's goodbye and may I never cross your mind, I gave all I'd got for what I’m trying to find, And O' here's hello and to New Amsterdam I go, I gave all my love, now I leave you alone.

To New Amsterdam I make my way, Upon the corrugated ocean waves, But a curse has cast its eye to me, disease creeps up so quietly, My hopeless heart is lost too far to sea, New Amsterdam you fade with every dream.

So here's goodbye and may I never cross your mind, I gave all I'd got for what I’m trying to find, And O' here's hello and to New Amsterdam I go, I gave all my love, now I leave you alone.

Oh my sweetheart such mistakes I made, Death came and stole my soul away, And though we chartered close to shore, they tossed my carcass overboard, And I sank silent toward the sand-bed's of the sea, O' New Amsterdam, you were not meant for me.
